State of the Arts

For years now the Corbin Gallery has been carving out its identity through various exhibitions, fundraisers, and community events that are only growing more advanced in their scope. Terry Baker and Meredith J. Lehan currently oversee the Arts & Entertainment District Project at the Corbin Gallery, where they are hosting the ongoing Spring Flowers exhibition. As the name implies, the studio is full of a wide range of portraits featuring flora illustrated in a variety of different styles that are all available for purchase. The Corbin Gallery however has ambitions that span beyond the walls of their studio. An art co-op is in the works, which would provide an active gallery space for participants near and wide. According to Ms. Baker “We start local and gradually reach out to the tri-state area, we have one Delaware member and have gathered interest from Pocomoke and Salisbury.” In the co-op artists will be able to assist each other with circulating their work and be able to submit work that do not have to abide by any themes.

In addition to this, the Corbin Gallery is also looking to increase their number of events and expand on what is currently works. Events such as the 4th Saturday Bay Strolls, the annual Hanging Out Art Shows, and their Black History Month Community event have been known to attract crowds in the triple digits and have only blossomed in their execution as time as gone on.

Follow the Corbin Gallery on their Facebook, check out their website, and the Crisfield Arts and Entertainment District website for all information about all of their upcoming events. Check Out the Bay Stroll that will be announced by the Corbin Gallery later on this week, as well as the April 23rd Arts Syndicate Opening Reception with live music and an upcoming Smith Island art show at Gallery 413 on 413 Main St.

Making Maryland Retirement Friendly

All retirees rejoice as Gov. Hogan has passed the highly anticipated Retirement Tax Elimination Act into law. This bill will provide relief to retired citizens 65 and older making up $100,000 in retirement income ($150,000 for married couples). With this the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and Family Budget Booster plans have also come to fruition, initiatives which incentivize employers to seek out applicants from underserved communities and exempt sales taxes from child care products respectively.

A brave new world stands before the greater Crisfield area and we aspire to bring it to you in every form and from every avenue.
