Is the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition a non-profit?

Yes! We received our non-profit approval letter from the IRS on November 4, 2015.

GCAC, Inc. is a non-profit corporation with Articles of Incorporation filed with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation and with a Charitable Solicitation Form on file with the Charitable Organizations Division of the Office of the Secretary of State.   We have received a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) and have received a letter from the Internal Revenue Service approving our status as a 501 (c) (3) for the purpose of having donations to GCAC be considered tax deductible.

Is the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition associated with the City of Crisfield?

GCAC is not part of the City Government or administration.  However, GCAC recognizes and strives to work closely with the Mayor and City Council.  Together we can leverage our capabilities to the benefit of the City, its residents and businesses.  The one thing we know for certain, we have shared goals to help Crisfield thrive.  

What happens to my money if the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition ceases operations?

GCAC corporate bylaws state that upon termination or dissolution of GCAC, Inc., any assets are to be distributed to one or more 501 (c) (3) organizations which have a charitable purpose similar to that of GCAC and which are approved either by the Board of Directors of GCAC or a by a court of proper jurisdiction.

Are any of the board members of the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition going to be paid or benefit financially from contributions?

Absolutely not!  Our board members are all volunteers who donate their time and have donated financial resources to establish and/or help the organization.   Board members sign A Maryland Non-profit Public Benefit Corporation Conflict of Interest Policy and Agreement.  This policy meets or exceeds all requirements of Maryland law.  Furthermore, the Board intends to apply this policy not only to its members, but also to immediate family members and any businesses in which members or immediate family members are engaged.  Board members will not be eligible to receive any administrative or grant writing fees from any grants with which the GCAC may be associated.
