ACCOMPLISHMENTS

GCAC Projects from the Five-Year Action Plan

Examples of projects completed by GCAC include:

  • Negotiating special conditions with WBOC TV and sponsoring the Crisfield Weather and Web Camera to allow small Crisfield businesses to promote themselves while also promoting the natural beauty of Crisfield. Participants report new business as a result.
  • Designing, publishing, printing, and distributing 2 editions of a Crisfield Visitor Brochure (10,000 copies each), a 32-page page Visitor Guide to use with potential investors & entrepreneurs (2,500 copies), and two versions of a Crisfield bumper sticker. 
  • Sponsoring large murals painted on buildings in the uptown district. 
  • Organizing beautification and painting projects in cooperation with the Sherwin Williams Co.
  • Obtaining two registered trademarks for use in marketing Crisfield.
  • Providing workforce training for local residents through the Crisfield Hospitality Institute supported by Wor-Wic Community College, MD DLLR, the National Restaurant Association, and Somerset County.
  • Developing a draft of a Greater Crisfield Business Prospectus for use with potential investors, developers, home buyers, & entrepreneurs 
  • Supporting the successful efforts for the City of Crisfield to permit golf carts on all streets within the City limits. 
  • Supported the successful efforts of the City of Crisfield to obtain the Arts & Entertainment District designation. Rainbow Place Drawing

Projects that are in the works or need to get underway include:

  • Working on plans for a Community Food Cooperative
  • Determining the feasibility and process to build a Water Park
  • Obtaining Water Taxi Service
  • Helping youth become entrepreneurs
  • Expanding our Hospitality Industry Partnership and creating new partnerships such as a Maritime Industry Partnership
  • Implementing a billboard marketing campaign and other advertising & promotion activities
  • Implementing a customer relationship management system to build a 250,000 person database of Crisfield tourists
  • Support of the hotel study being done by Salisbury University
  • Working with the Somerset County Long Term Recovery Committee to find resources to build or repair homes

There are 191 projects in the Five-Year Action Plan found at http://www.greatercrisfieldmd.org/plan/. Projects are prioritized by the GCAC Board of Directors and executed by the GCAC Executive Committee and other volunteers. Lack of funding and professional staff is a major impediment to fully implementing the plan.
